MISSION:
To inspire eighth grade students to stay in school by becoming a
volunteer role model and teaming up to present Junior Achievement's
Diploma-see:
Economics
0f Success program.
THE
CALL TO VOLUNTEERS: Greater
Hernando County Chamber of Commerce is looking for volunteer
role models, like you, to inspire eighth grade students to stay in
school. This program Diploma-see initiative is a partnership with Junior Achievement’s
JA Economics for Success program. A
volunteer role model may be a business owner, professional, company
employee, educator, parent, or community leader. All volunteer role
models will be required to complete a registration and background
check prior to attending a training session.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS: Volunteers will attend a two hour
training session provided by Junior Achievement training specialists,
1-2 weeks prior to the class. This training includes a review of
the specific curriculum and activities and suggestions for the
most effective presentation of the material and teaching tips.
Student character traits will also be reviewed in detail.
On Diploma-see Day, volunteers will present the JA
hands-on material in teams. Volunteers work together in the
classroom to present the curriculum and share personal work and life
experiences that reinforce the importance of staying in school.
This is a pivotal age for our students as they are making decisions
regarding the continuation of their education, their commitment to
graduating from high school and their future career aspirations. It is a great opportunity for us to provide them the information
necessary to make an informed decision.
Our
Diploma-see sessions will be held in all eighth grade
classrooms at West Hernando Middle School on October 29, 2008,
Powell Middle School December 10, 2008 and Parrott Middle School
April 17, 2009. We will meet 45 minutes before school starts for a
brief refresher training and to answer any questions. It takes
approximately
(3)
hours to deliver the Course, the day will conclude around noon.

OPPORTUNITIES:

with sponsorships
